Virtual BBS External User Editor Version 3.11 By Scott 1@4123 VirtualNET
===============================================================================
This is the Fourth official release version of the VBBS EXTERNAL USER
EDITOR. The main file UEDIT.EXE must be run within the VBBS main Directory or
whichever directory contains the configuration files. The files needed by this
program are SYSPATHS.CFG and USERFILE.DAT.
Your suggestions are welcomed and encouraged. Please contact me at
node @4123 VirtulNET with any suggestions or bug reports. This program
uses pulldown menus and supports a Microsoft Mouse. It is recomended
to use the mouse for the best navigation of the editor.
Liability:
===============================================================================
Well here goes....
If this program should cause you to have a bad day it is not my
responsibility. This program is distributed "as is". It has been
tested on several systems without incident.
===============================================================================
Beta Testers.
version 1.10:
I would like to take a moment to thank the following people for their help
in getting the bugs ironed out of the early versions.... Silver Surfer 2@4123,
Renegade 1@4121, and Beep 1@4120...... Thanks for the help guys!!!
version 3.11:
Once again, Thanks to Renegade 1@4121 for the help and suggestions on
version 3.11!
Things to look out for........
2 of my Beta testers had problems using the arrow keys to manuver through
the "List Users" option and the "Edit" option. The secret is that you have to
press the tab key twice to move the cursor from the "Ok" button up the the
"Highlight bar". Also the Escape key will abort anything.....
===============================================================================
The Menus......
To manuver the menus is simple. Just put the mouse pointer on your selection
and click the left button to select it. If you are not using the mouse just
hit the "Alt" key and then the highlited letter may be pressed to select an
option or you may move the "highlight bar" with the arrow keys and then press
enter on your selection. You may also use the "Short-cut" keys F1 for
View/Edit User F2 for List Users Etc.... This program is fairly self
explanitory so you shouldn't have many problems getting around.
Menu Choices....
View/Edit User:
This is just what is sounds like. Once this option is selected you
will be prompted for a user number or name. The number will take you
directly to that account and the name will search each record for a
match in either the "Handle Field" or the "Real Name Field". The
Search string may be partial or complete, you will be prompted for each
matching name found by the program. Once you have a user record on the
screen you may now change pages by either using the UP and DOWN Arrow
keys or by clicking the mouse on the desired page. You may also Page
through the user accounts by using the LEFT and RIGHT Arrow Keys.
By pressing the ENTER key you will be brought into EDIT Mode. Here
you will see a window with the field names that you can edit. To get
the cursor onto the right field, either click on the field or hit the
TAB key Twice and then use the Arrow Keys. Once you have selected an
item to edit then press ENTER or the OK Button in the window.
If changes have been made you may exit EDIT mode by hitting the ESC Key
or by the CANCEL Button in the window. You will now be prompted to
as to weather to save the changes or not. To make changes to the file
select YES.
Auto Dialer:
In UEDIT version 2.00 an auto dialer was added to dial the user's
voice phone number. To Activate the Dialer just hit the SPACEBAR
from the VIEW/EDIT user page, and UEDIT will call that user. I would
like to thank Silly Boy #1 @5035 VirtualNET for this idea! The first
time the dialer is run you will need to tell it which Com Port your
modem is on. NOTE: If you have shelled to UEDIT while the user is
ONLINE.... **DO NOT** use this because obviously the user will be hung
up on, unless you have more than one modem. To change the com port
you can now go into the 'Options' Menu and select 'Com Port' and then
choose the comport that your system uses.
Search Up and Search Down:
A newly added feature in UEDIT version 3.11 is the search feature.
This feature is very usefull for finding users' who have certian things
in common with their accounts. First you must go to the 'Options' menu
and select 'Set Defaults'. Once you set the defaults then the 'Page Up'
and 'Page Down' keys will search through the user file until it finds a
matching account to the default options. Then the account will be
displayed. 'Page Up' searches forward through the accounts and
'Page Down' searches Backwards through the accounts.
List Users:
List users is just for seeing the users' handles that are in your user
file. If you select one of those users and push the "Ok" button you
will automaticaly be taken to the "View User" screen for that user.
Multiple Changes:
This option will change a given field on EVERY user in your userfile.
If you only want to change a few then you must use the above option.
Once you select this option you will first be warned by a warning
screen that you have selected the mass changer then you will be asked
weather or not you would like to make a backup copy of your userfile.
If you answer yes to make a backup, UEDIT will make a backup in your
data directory called USERFILE.BAK. This is a good Idea because if you
really louse something up then you can easily rename the USERFILE.BAK
to USERFILE.DAT and start over. At this point you will be presented
with a list of options to change. If you decide not to use this just
push the "Cancel" button or your escape key. If you want to edit an
item just highlight that item then push the "Ok" button. Once you have
done this then just enter the new value, and that value will be set in
EVERY user account in your userfile.
Global Color Change:
This will reset all of the colors in every user account to those that
are set in account #1. Simply adjust the colors in your account the
way that you want all the others to be then run this option.
Conditional Changer:
This option will change only the accounts that match the criteria set
in the 'Defaults' section. You may change any of the default settings
before running this option without making the changes perminant. Once
you have set up the Search Options then you must Either select 'Find
and Verify' or 'Change All'. 'Find and Verify' will querry you before
changing each user that matches the settings. 'Change All' will just
make the changes. For more details on the 'Defaults' see the section
on 'Set Defaults'.
Print Mailing Labels:
This option will print out mailing labels of every user in your
userfile. To abort the printing once it has started just hit the
escape key.
Print All Users:
This option will print a detailed list of each users account. This
list will contain much of the information shown in the view user
screen.
Print Select Users:
This is a new option for UEDIT 2.x. You will first need to create a
text file called SELECT.LST, and in this file you will place the user
number of each user that you want printed in the order you like. When
entering user numbers be sure to only place one user number per line.
UEDIT will print the users from the top of the list to the bottom in
the order in which they appear in SELECT.LST. SELECT.LST must be
placed in the same directory as UEDIT.EXE.
**NOTE** This feature is only available on Registered Copies!
Conditional Print:
This section is just like the conditional changer in that it uses the
Default setting to determine which users to print. When you first
make this selection you will be prompted as to which type of printout
you want to make, Mailing Labels or a Detailed Listing. Once the
printing begins you will be able to abort it by hitting the escape key.
It may take a moment for the buffer on your printer to empty.
**NOTE** This feature is only available on Registered Copies!
Set Defaults:
This is where you will set the defaults for the Conditional Printer,
the Conditional Changer, and the search up and down. The first field
is for the default SL. once you enter a security level here now you
need to tell UEDIT wether to look for SL's of an equal value,
less than, or greater than the SL that you entered. The next set of
fields are 'access flags' and 'flags' fields. The last field is
changable from Time Bank, Credits, or Max time. Just put the 'X' in
the apropriate box and then enter the value. There is also a field on
this one for 'Equal to', 'less than', or 'greater than'. You may omit
any of these fields you like. If a field is left blank it is ignored.
You may also use as many simultaniously <SP?> as you like . But
remember..... in order for the user to be found their account must
match every field that you have an entry in.
Exit:
This option ends the editing session and returns you to DOS.
